The European Parliament Supports Our House’s Campaign for the Release of Aliaksandra Pulinovich
The European Parliament has demanded the immediate release of Aliaksandra Pulinovich and all political prisoners in Belarus.
On 18 June 2026, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the situation of political prisoners in Belarus, paying particular attention to the case of the minor political prisoner Aliaksandra Pulinovich. Members of the European Parliament demanded her immediate and unconditional release, as well as the release of all political prisoners in Belarus, their full rehabilitation, and restoration of their rights. The resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority: 504 Members voted in favour, 4 against, and 55 abstained.
For Our House, this decision is of particular importance. In recent months, our organisation has been conducting an international solidarity campaign in support of Aliaksandra Pulinovich and the other underage defendants in the “Black Nightingales” case. We have consistently drawn the international community’s attention to the fate of these young people, who were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for anti-war and peaceful protest graffiti, labelled as “terrorists”, and subjected to severe repression.
In its resolution, the European Parliament explicitly condemned the persecution of Aliaksandra Pulinovich, who was detained in 2024 at the age of 16 and later sentenced to more than ten years in prison after being accused of involvement in anti-war graffiti actions in the “Black Nightingales” case.
Members of the European Parliament also strongly condemned the misuse of anti-terrorism and anti-extremism legislation by the Belarusian authorities to criminalise anti-war expression, solidarity with Ukraine, and peaceful protest, including among young people. The document separately emphasises the need to end torture, incommunicado detention of political prisoners, denial of medical care, restrictions on access to lawyers and family members, and to investigate deaths in custody and allegations of torture.
The European Parliament stressed that the release of all political prisoners and an end to repression are prerequisites for any meaningful political dialogue or economic cooperation with the Lukashenka regime. MEPs also called on the European Union and international partners to intensify efforts to secure the release of political prisoners, strengthen sanctions pressure on those responsible for repression, and support mechanisms of international accountability for crimes committed by the regime.
Our House welcomes the decision of the European Parliament and regards it as an important signal of international solidarity with Aliaksandra Pulinovich, other underage political prisoners, and all victims of political repression in Belarus.
We are grateful to the Members of the European Parliament for their attention to the fate of Aliaksandra Pulinovich and other young people involved in the “Black Nightingales” case. Their decision confirms that the international community is not prepared to turn a blind eye to the persecution of children and teenagers for their anti-war stance and peaceful protest.
Our House’s campaign for the release of Aliaksandra Pulinovich will continue until she and the other underage political prisoners are free.
